4 Days Akagera Birding Experience

Birding is done either in the morning or in the evening during cool hours of the day. It’s Rwanda’s best bird watching destination. The many kilometres of waterside habitat support African eagles, herons, ibises, kingfishers, storks, egrets, crakes, rails, cormorants, darts and pelicans. Seasonal visitors include large flocks of ducks, bee-eaters and terns, and the woodlands areas are particularly good places for barbets, shrikes, orioles and weavers.

Day 1: Arrival at Kigali International Airport

When you arrive at the Kigali International Airport (KIA), you will be met and picked by an experienced and welcoming driver guide fully dressed in Mahali Africa attire. The driver guide will take you through Kigali’s beautiful scenery as you proceed to your hotel. The maximum journey time from the airport is 30 Minutes to your booked hotel within the capital Kigali.

Day 2: Early visit to Akagera National Park

You will takeoff to Akagera National Park early in the morning after breakfast, 5 hours drive towards the eastern part of the country, you will use the rest of the day to game drive and see animals such as; impalas, topis elephants, warthogs, Mongoose,bush bucks, crocodiles, eland zebras, giraffes, baboons, hippos, among others.

Day 3: Akagera Birding Tour

After morning breakfast, you will start your bird watching experience in Akagera where there are guaranteed sightings of rare bird species along with big game mammals such as giraffes, zebras, elephants, buffalos, hyenas and antelopes including the toe webbed and swamp dwelling sitatungas. In the afternoon, you will have boat trip along Lake Ihema where you will have a chance to see many other bird species. Accommodation and dinner at Akagera lodges. 

Day 4: Check-out and departure

After breakfast, you will have an exist game drive as you head out to Kigali at the place of your stay or Kigali International Airport to catch your international flight back home .
