The Serengeti National Park is the world’s last great wildlife refuge as it contains an estimated three million large animals, most of which take part in a seasonal migration (each year this huge herd of wildebeest together with over 200,000 zebra and gazelle migrate in a clockwise direction around the Serengeti, up to the Masai Mara in Kenya and then back down to the Serengeti to have their young around 8000 wildebeest are born a day, between mid Feb and mid March). The area covers 14,763 sq kms. Tarangire National Park is almost 3000 sq km in size and is probably best known for its huge numbers of elephants and baobab trees. The name of the park comes from the Tarangire River which crosses through the park. The park is spectacular during the dry season from June to November as wildlife concentrations rival that of the Serengeti since enormous populations of elephants and other animals are drawn to the Tarangire River as their only source of water. Lake Manyara is a small park with wonderful with hundreds of different bird species and the only park with tree climbing lion.
ITINERARY
Day 1: ARRIVAL –
Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, transfer to Mt Meru hotel for overnight.
Day 2
After breakfast at Mount Meru Hotel depart at 8am and drive to Lake Manyara National park, you will have hot lunch at Manyara Serena. Will have afternoon game drive and later drive to the hotel, we recommend dinner and overnight at Manyara Serena. Lake Manyara is a beautiful little park which is famous for its tree-climbing lions, elephants and large troops of baboons. The park is home to an amazing variety of birds and animals, visit to this jungle habitat will be an amazing experience among other parks you will visit during your safari.
Day 3
After breakfast drive for 3 hours to Serengeti National park, on the way, you may like to stop in to look at a local Maasai Village. Enjoy an afternoon game drive at the central part of the Serengeti. We recommend dinner and overnight at Serengeti Kati Kati Tented Camp. The area covers 14,763 sq kms.
Day 4
After breakfast have a full day game drive in another section of Serengeti National Park, dinner and overnight at Serengeti Kati Kati Tented Camp. The Central Serengeti offers unforgettable game viewing all year round due to its multi resident animals. Do not miss the Seronera River Valley in the Central Serengeti is a ‘must see’ during your safari. During the dry season June to November is the best time for game viewing in Central Serengeti, as resident animals are more concentrated in the area due to the lack of water on the plains. Resident animals are Buffalo, hartebeest, hippo, warthog, giraffe, impala, lion and The Central Serengeti is also one of the best areas in Africa to spot the elusive leopard. You may be lucky enough to encounter this, try not to miss!
Day 5
After breakfast enjoy another section of the Serengeti before driving after lunch onto the Ngorongoro Ndutu Area. We recommend dinner and overnight at Ndutu Safari Lodge.
Day 6: RETURN
After breakfast you start a drive to Serengeti National Park. Track the Wildebeest migration enjoy the game drive and later drive to Seronera Wildlife Lodge for dinner and overnight.
Day 7
After breakfast enjoy full day game drive of the Ndutu Area lunch at the Lodge, dinner and overnight at Ndutu Safari Lodge.
Day 8
After breakfast drive to Tarangire national park, enjoy the afternoon game drive. Lunch at the Lodge; afterwards depart the park and head back to Arusha, We recommend dinner and overnight at Mount Meru Hotel. After breakfast and possibly a relaxed afternoon in Mt Meru Hotel you will be transferred to the Kilimanjaro international Airport for your scheduled flight either back home or to your next supplement destination e. g Zanzibar, Mafia Island, Bagamoyo or Southern Parks.
